Why Choose Treatment?

Making the decision to enter treatment for addiction is one of the best decisions you can make. It can be a little frightening, though, especially if you have never been to a treatment facility before. However, rehabs can help improve the odds that you stay drug-free. They offer a great deal of support to those in recovery, including:

  • Round-the-clock supervision
  • Structured routines with meals, sleeping, and exercise
  • A safe, drug-free environment
  • Psychological and medical treatment

The majority of crack rehab treatment programs are quite similar to one another. They all require that participants to go through an initial screening and assessment, participate in psychological treatments, and then transition into aftercare. Let’s take a closer look at what most reputable programs offer, stage-by-stage.

What happens during rehab?

Rehab is a lot like a summer camp for adults, with main activities revolving around a set daily schedule. You can expect a lot of group work including counseling and education, usually facilitated in gender-separated peer groups. Daily schedules include regular mealtimes, group counseling, and support group attendance. Individual counseling is often scheduled multiple times weekly.

The descriptions below should give you some idea as to what to expect during treatment. We review the common elements of rehab stage-by-stage.

STAGE 1. Assessment

Entering a rehab program requires that participants go through an initial assessment, during which addiction specialists will determine how severe an addiction is and what type of treatment can work best. Treatment is best when it meets your specific needs. This is why the initial assessment is so important and can take 1-3 hours to complete. Specialists will usually ask you to complete forms, and will then interview you based on standard industry questionnaires. The assessment process also usually includes:

  • A medical history
  • A family history
  • A physical exam
  • Drug testing

2. Medical detox

Medical detox for crack addiction enables medical professionals to constantly monitor you as you go through withdrawal. This allows you  to start treatment completely free of the drug and able to focus on recovery. Detox from cocaine requires emotional support, as cravings for cocaine can peak in the first week after quitting, go away, and then return. So while initial detox may only take a few days, ongoing supervision is necessary for periods of longer-term sobriety.

3. Psychological treatment

Talk therapy is the most common psychological treatments used during rehab. In addition to individual psychotherapy, those in recovery from crack addiction will also usually be encouraged to participate and family and group therapy sessions.

4. Education sessions

While in crack rehab treatment, you will typically attend several education sessions throughout the week. These sessions will help you learn more about crack addiction and how to fight it.

5. Supportive services

Supportive services offered by rehab treatment facilities include medical services, financial assistance services, vocational and educational services, and housing assistance services.

What To Expect After Crack Rehab Treatment?

Leaving crack rehab treatment can be a frightening thing. People are faced with transitioning from a safe drug-free environment and back into society, which is often full of temptation. A sound exit plan, prepared with the help of an experienced addiction specialist, will help you make this transition much easier.

What does an exit plan look like?

An exit plan usually includes details about:

  • rehab aftercare planning
  • what you will do if faced with temptation
  • how you will live life outside of the facility

For example, those who have completed treatment usually attend weekly outpatient treatment sessions held at the rehab center or through an outpatient clinic. Graduates also continue to participate in self-help groups and family therapy.

Help from a crack a rehab treatment facility does not end when a person completes a rehab program. On the contrary, expect to be offered a number of supportive services from the facility during every stage of recovery. For instance, those who need a place to live maybe refer to halfway houses. These stable and drug-free transitional living spaces offer you a place to stay as they make the difficult switch from a seemingly safe environment back into the outside world. Those who need help finding employment  usually take advantage of vocational services offered by addiction facilities.

Visiting Someone In Crack Rehab

If your loved one is recovering from crack addiction, you may want to know what to expect when visiting them. People who just arrived will usually not be allowed to have visitors for several weeks, at least until they adjust to the structured environment of the rehab facility. After this time, however, you may be able to visit your loved one for a short time once per week.

All facilities are different when it comes to visiting someone in crack rehab treatment. Each facility has different rules and policies in place to protect people in recovery and help them focus on treatment. You can expect to spend a few hours together during your stay. Some facilities ask that you keep physical contact to a minimum. Others request that you leave personal items, valuable items, or any items that may hinder treatment at home or in your vehicle.

Family therapy sessions are also usually offered during visitation. When visiting someone in rehab treatment, it’s a good idea to participate in the sessions. They will not only help you better understand addiction, but they can also help you better understand how to help your loved one and yourself fight a crack addiction. Participating in the sessions will also show your loved one that you are serious about supporting him on this difficult journey.

Can You Leave Rehab Early?

No one can be forced to stay in crack rehab treatment if they don’t want to be there. Anyone can leave a rehab program before completion, but this is strongly discouraged.

Why?

Leaving crack rehab early can seriously jeopardize a person’s recovery. Not completing a treatment program makes it more difficult to learn all of the necessary coping mechanisms to fight addiction. Plus, you remove yourself fro the relative safety for 24-7 supervision. Therefore, if you leave crack rehab treatment before completion, your chances of relapse are much higher.

Insurance companies will also usually refuse to pay for any part of a treatment program that was not completed. This means that you could be left with a large bill if you leave crack rehab treatment before completion. Legal issues could also arise if you do not complete a court ordered crack rehab treatment program.
