Cocaine is a powerful stimulant which has been abused for decades. There are two different chemical processes which produce the main forms of cocaine: powder cocaine, and crack cocaine. Crack cocaine can be smoked and it is the most potent and the riskiest form of cocaine.

But, how is cocaine smoked? What are the effects of cocaine? In this article we will review the way smoking cocaine affects users. In case you have any additional questions or simply want to share your personal experience, we invite you to post us your feedback in the comments section below. We try to read and respond to all legitimate comments.

What does smoking cocaine do to you?

Cocaine is smoked because the lungs provide an extremely quick and effective path for the drug to enter the bloodstream. When the smoke meets the large surface area in the lugs, it goes through the membrane and cocaine reaches the brain within 8 seconds.

Smoking cocaine makes you feel more alert, energized, confident, and awake. You may experience tension in your muscles, which can be followed by an increase in heartbeat. You can also expect to feel exhilaration as a result of excessive dopamine release. Elevated blood pressure also occurs as a result of the faster heart rate, which causes the blood vessels to constrict. This situation can become risky due to a possibility for heart attack, stroke or cardiac arrest.

Does smoking cocaine work to get you high?

Yes, smoking cocaine will get you high.

There is one downside to this method of administration: the high is intense and felt faster, but it lasts for a shorter period of time. Crack has the ability to create an intense high experience almost immediately, which usually lasts 5-15 minutes. Sometimes users stack up doses and continue to use one dose after another before the euphoria wears off. This practice is dangerous and can lead to numerous unwanted consequences.

Although the first effects of crack diminish pretty quickly, other general cocaine effects last longer. Effects may continue for 1-2 hours (depending on the dose) after you smoke the drug.

Smoking cocaine side effects

You should know that if you smoke crack, addiction is a possibility. But, there are many other physical and psychological risks associated with cocaine abuse, including:

  • acute respiratory problems (coughing, shortness of breath, and lung trauma and bleeding)
  • aggressive and paranoid behavior
  • cardiac arrest
  • constricted blood vessels
  • increased temperature, heart rate and blood pressure
  • seizure
  • sexual dysfunction
  • reproductive damage and infertility
  • delirium or psychosis
  • death

Smoking cocaine on tin foil

When we talk about smoking cocaine, we usually refer to freebase cocaine, which unlike cocaine salt, has a low melting point. This is a property that makes it easier to smoke. Freebase cocaine is actually hard to use through injecting because it is relatively insoluble in water – a quality that makes it difficult to dissolve the drug for injection.

The procedure of smoking cocaine on tin foil usually includes placing crack on a piece of tin foil, then heating it from below with a lighter and inhaling the smoke through some type of straw. However, crack is typically smoked using a glass pipe.

Smoking cocaine with weed

Marijuana and cocaine are drugs with different/opposite effects when taken: marijuana is a downer and cocaine an upper. Many users who smoke too much crack will not smoke marijuana at the same time, but will attempt to “come down” with weed.

Sometimes, the combination of cannabis and cocaine is unintentional. Dealers can lace weed by sprinkling powdered cocaine or crack cocaine into a joint or blunt. This can be very dangerous, especially for users without tolerance to cocaine.

The combination crack cocaine or unrefined cocaine and marijuana is known by the slang term “Bazooka”. When taken together, crack and weed can confuse the mind of someone who may be experiencing drug-induced psychosis, making the symptoms much more frightening. If a person has been smoking crack for several days and has not slept or eaten properly, marijuana is possibly going to cause hallucinations and/or paranoid reactions.

Is smoking cocaine bad for you?

Firstly, smoking this drug is illegal. Cocaine is classified as a Schedule I narcotic drug because you can get addicted to cocaine. It has no known medical uses. Furthermore, cocaine has harmful effects to the users’ health and leads to aggressive and paranoid behaviour, severe damage to the heart, liver and kidney damage, and infectious diseases.

Finally, note this: smoking cocaine does not only deteriorate you health, but can also take its toll on your education, professional career, family, or financial state.

Can you smoke cocaine?

YES, cocaine can be smoked…this doesn’t mean you should, though.

  1. I have found a lightbulb in my house that looks like it has been smoked out of with a burnt bottom. Would you suggest this would be cocaine usage or methampetamine use? Or would it be hard to say? Thank you.

  2. so my and my bf smoked powder cocaine last night and he told be it was different to crack, can someone confirm this?
we smoked it out his bowl.

    1. Hi Sarah. Crack has a different form for powder cocaine. It usually comes in solid rocks with different sizes and shapes. It may be withe withe or yellow in color.

    2. Yeah it’s actually completely different. Crack has to be “cooked” cocaine cut with Barcarbinated Soda or Ammonia. The Barcab will be yellow, the Ammo, white. It is a completely different experience & doesn’t carry the same stigma as Crack. Cocaine Base is white powder, alot of the time in lumps. Crack is White/Yellow/Even glass like, but is stronger, brittle & doesn’t desolve very easily. Cocaine on the other hand desolves quickly, is soft & lumps are crushed with ease. I’m not glorifying either, infact I hate Crack Cocaine. Neither are psychically addictive, although Crack is seriously Psychologically addictive as is Cocaine, just not as extreme. I tolerate Cocaine, I will not tolerate Crack. Fun fact: there’s a 20% (approx) chance that you become addicted to Herione or Crack Cocaine after one use! Meth Amthetamines (Ice/Glass) its 80% (approx) after one use! “use drugs, don’t let drugs use you” ?✌️

  3. Hello,
I would like to know about the possible effect of second hand smoke when smoking lace blunts or smoking out of a weed pipe; are there any side effects? Are the any chances of a person catching contact highs or failing a drug test because they were in the vicinity of someone smoking cocaine in their weed?

    1. Hello Alycia. Cocaine use can be present in “second hand” users, especially when smoked, but because the amount is usually very low, it will be hard to be detected on a drug test.

  4. Hey, everyone! Ive had an off and on problem with this. what works for me (and not everyone) is by staying busy! which i know, blehh exercise and extra work. but its also scientifically proven to help most people. my personal favorite thing to do is to voluteer at schools. There are always great people. welp, enough rambling, good luck all.

PS im super antisocial and getting out and being around positive people was a life changer,

  5. Doesnt smoking cocaine make your lungs numb since it is a numbing agent and if it does numb the lungs does it become hard to breathe and cease to breathe?

  6. Cocaine is actually classified as a schedule II. Just because a substance has the potential for abuse doesn’t make it a schedule I. Although the author was correct about
There being zero states with recreational cocaine, it does however, have a few small medical benefits. Cocaine restricts blood flow to the area(s) of contact. This tremendously helps slow blood flow during small procedures such as nasal surgeries. And yes this puts marijuana listed as “more dangerous.

  7. I seen burn foil paper and cocaine in the bathroom while my boyfriend was in the shower….he’s been acting mean and disrespectful to me! Can he harm me?

  8. Can you smoke powder cocaine not crack I want to know if you can smoke cocaine not crack cocaine if so how do I do it if not possible how do I make crack cocaine I just want to know if it’s possible I personally don’t do it but a buddy of mine would like to know thanks.

  9. How much cocaine has to be smoked for these effects to be felt? If I’ve sniffed alot then smoked a tiny bit is that dangerous?

  10. Hi, my partner smoked freebase cocaine last night so is this basically the same as smoking crack or are there differences? She said that it’s a cleaner way to use it….. When i was younger I would only snort it! I wouldn’t dare smoke it as I thought that is basically smoking crack cocaine. Is she right plz?

  11. You can smoke coke I smoke it like crack use a can with ash and coke and smoke gives you an intense short buzz and makes your heart race like a mini crack pipe

  12. just want to find out what are the chances of stopping the cravings.I find it difficult cause I can go for almost 3 months without using but if I stress,be pressured I seem to find my self back at point A.Then I start feeling sorry for my self and that also becomes another reason for me to go use. What can I do please advise

    1. Hi Caliyanda. Cravings are the worse to manage, and you should do by yourself. I suggest that you try meditation as well as mindfulness therapy. Some people in recovery claim that these techniques have helped them in beating physiological adverse effects when quitting cocaine. Moreover, you may enroll into group meetings where you can get all support you need. Also, you may call the Cocaine Helpline on 1-888-497-6879 to get in touch with dependable hotline professionals available 24/7.
