Sobriety and overcoming pain with God

“The God Factor” is offered to everyone in addiction recovery, but it is not chosen by everyone. You must make up your own mind whether or not the spiritual part of recovery is for you. More here on how faith in God can help heal the greatest pains that addiction helps cover up.

The God Factor is a choice

Let me state this from the beginning—the God Factor is offered to everyone, but it is not chosen by everyone. You must make up your own mind whether or not the spiritual part of recovery is for you.

My spiritual walk has made all the difference in my life. I have walked through depression, loneliness and major relationship melt downs and my relationship with God has brought me through it all.

Pressure that has the potential to crush can also heal

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding ; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

After my second divorce, I felt like a total failure. The last thing I wanted was for my marriage to end in divorce. I knew it was ending and there wasn’t anything I could do about it.

As I was walking in the public library, I noticed an article in a National Geographic. I believe the title of the article was something like, “Diamonds in the Sky.” It spoke of how giant stars die, burn out, and turn into carbon. The tremendous pressure on the carbon is enormous and this intense pressure turns the carbon into giant diamonds in the sky.

I silently asked God about how all the pressure on me related to this story. The answer I got back was that although I was experiencing a tremendous amount of stress and pressure, I was also being made into a diamond in the hands of a loving God. Indeed, He did form and fashion me into someone useable. I found some peace and healing in that illustration.

Pain that sent me to the hospital

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.” – Proverbs 3:7-8

One time I lifted a wooden barrel with dirt in it and twisted my back. For the next 15 years my back always was in pain. I went to my physician and a chiropractor. The doctor gave me pain meds and muscle relaxers and this helped the pain. Then the chiropractor worked on the for almost two years and said that he had done all he could do and I went on a maintenance plan.

The God Factor

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” – John 14:6

I knew I had to seek God for the answer for the rest of my healing. I listened to various teachers who taught that I could begin to build my faith through listening and speaking healing scriptures. It took months before I noticed some improvement. Gradually, over a period of a year and a half, my back began to get better. After another year I continued to improve. Yes, sometimes I felt like giving up and I complained that it was going too slow. Yet, I would not give up.

I did keep taking some pain meds and herbal remedies which did help me get through the pain. After reading a book how to operate in the love of God, I finally received my final healing. I am now pain free thanks to those teachers and ministers who refused to back off healing through the Scriptures.

When something is broke, go back to the manufacturer

I do not expect that everyone will believe what actually happened to me. I can tell you that it worked because I went to the One who made me and asked His help. He honored His Word and I am eternally grateful!

To all those who are in need of a miracle to help you get free from addiction, I would offer you the same place I got my help. I am now walking pain free after 15 years of constant pain without any meds or herbal medicine. Now that’s something to celebrate!
